Obituary of Frank A. Magielda
Frank A. Magielda, 87, of McCleary Avenue, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam on July 5, 1923, he was the son of Ignatius and Georgianna Wojciehowska Magielda, he attended local schools and was a lifelong resident.
Employed by Mohawk Carpets for twenty three years, Frank retired in 1985 from the General Electric Company after nineteen years of service.
During World War II he served with the US Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and formerly of St. Casimir's Parish where he served as an usher. Frank was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209. He was a member of it's Msgr. William A. Browne Assembly Forth Degree, and served as commander of it's Color Corps.
On June 23, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Immaculata "Emma" Putorti.
She survives as well as a sister in law Virginia Alescio of Schenectady and a brother in law Frank Putorti of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Frank was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Stacia Magielda Laniewski and husband Stanley.
Funeral services will take place Saturday morning at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church, Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his name to St. Mary's Church or the National Shrine of North American Martyrs both in care of the funeral home office.
