Obituary of Gertrude W. O'Neil

Mrs. Gertrude W. O'Neil, 93, of Dania Drive, Hagaman, NY died peacefully Thursday, July 15, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness. The former Gertrude W. Hasslinger was born in Troy, NY on February 22, 1917 the daughter of the late Anthony and Caroline Pfeil Hasslinger. She was a graduate of Troy High School and went on to work for New York State in the Department of Tax and Finance until her retirement in 1979. On April 15, 1943 she was united in marriage to Francis O'Neil. That union lasted 47 years until his passing on July 1, 1990. She was also predeceased by her siblings Anna Bowler, Frank Hasslinger, Edward Hasslinger, John Hasslinger, William Hasslinger and Marie Piche. She is survived by her loving daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Leahy of Hagaman, NY; two wonderful grandchildren, Caitlin Walter and Kyleen Leahy; two great grandchildren; her sisters, Edna Sestito of Syracuse, NY and Helena Hasslinger of Troy, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 9:30a.m. at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Hagaman, NY with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy, NY. There is no calling hours at Mrs. O'Neil's request. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Stephen's Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
