Obituary of Charles M. LoBalbo
Charles M. Chuck LoBalbo, 65, of Knollwood Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away Sunday morning at his home with his loving wife Mary at his side.
He was born in Amsterdam, NY on February 16, 1945, the son of the late Alfred A. LoBalbo, Sr. and Jenni Burdow LoBalbo. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and a 1963 graduate of Amsterdam High School and the Fulton Montgomery Community College.
Mr. LoBalbo was on active duty with the New York Army National Guard, retiring as Sergeant Major in 2005, with 39 years of service. He served with the 105th Infantry and 19th Special Forces Group Airborne. He was stationed in Amsterdam, Gloversville and Schenectady.
He was a member of the American Legion National Post #1 and the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #2157 in Rotterdam, NY. Charles was also a member of the John J. Wyzomirski Post #701, American Legion Post 741 and the 27th Division Association, Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Weiss LoBalbo, whom he married on June 11, 1966. Also surviving are one daughter Regina Gina Holloway and her husband Brian of Amsterdam, NY and one son, Greg A. LoBalbo and his wife Jennifer of Delanson, NY; two brothers, Edward Susan LoBalbo of Wilmington, NC and Alfred Carol LoBalbo of Glenville, NY; brother-in-law Patrick Luci. Four grandchildren, Keenan and Trey Holloway and Kaelyn and Luciano LoBalbo; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Luci.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 8:30 at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 at St. Mary s Roman Catholic Church, Main St., Amsterdam, NY with Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will take place in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
