Obituary of James V. Franco
Mr. James V. Franco went to the Lord to be with his beloved wife, Lucy, who died 12 days ago. Lucy and Jim were married 67 years. Being one of five children born to Louise Carangelo and John Franco, his remaining siblings are Louis Franco and Mary Simboli. Jim's deceased siblings are Sophie Franco Caporossi and Anna Franco Salvione.
James is survived by his six children, John V. Franco Patricia, Nancy Clemente Mark, Delores Bunkoff Richard, Mary Moller David, Ann Waite Robert and Jeanne Greene Warren. Dad took great pride in his nine grandchildren and their families, James Franco, Edward Franco, David Franco Christine, Lynn Clemente, Amy Frisella Mary, Adam Bunkoff Carolyn, Nathan Bunkoff Christine, Stephen Greene and Jacob Greene. He also dearly loved his nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Madison, Addison, Emily, Connor, Samuel, Kate, Megan and Hailey.
James started working at Bowman's Market at the age of 11. He served as a mess sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942-1946, the only four years that he did not work at Bowman's Market. He assumed ownership of the store in 1950 and continued to work until 2008.
He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and its Holy Name Society, a life-member of the Italian American Club in Albany and a former member of Pine Brook Golf Club. He and his wife Lucy enjoyed dining out at local restaurants and loved to go dancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. The Rev. Michael Clemente and The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will con-celebrate. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Church of the Holy Spirit Building Fund, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the charity of your choice.
