Obituary of Luigi Buttino

Luigi "Louie" Buttino, age 87 of Gloversville passed away on Tuesday July 27, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. He was born in Gloversville on September 24, 1922 the son of the late Nicola and Christina Cairo Buttino. Luigi proudly served his country with the United States Coast Guard during WWII. He was employed as a foreman with Ellithorpe Tanning in Gloversville until he retired in 1984. Luigi also co-owned the Buttino Brothers Apple orchard in Benson for approximately 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1076, the Ida McGinnis Senior Center, the 50-55 Plus Club, the Concordia Club as well as the Fire Wardens Association. Luigi was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Luigi is survived by his sister, Pippina D'Errico of Schenectady, three nieces: Marie D'Errico of Schenectady, Christina Mawson Kevin of Guilderland Center, Nancy Rounds William of Syracuse and three nephews: Thomas D'Errico Laura of Roswell, GA, David D'Errico Cindy of Byron, NY and Richard Kelvey Lynn of Troy. Additional survivors include four great nieces and two great nephews. In addition to his parents, two brothers Anthony Buttino and Cosimo Buttino and three sisters Maria Kelvey, Lena Tuzio and Angelina Buttino preceded Luigi in death. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 31, 2010 at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home; 51 Fremont Street; Gloversville. A Prayer service will follow at 10:15 a.m. At 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Spirit; 149 South Main Street; Gloversville with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak as Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow with Military Honors at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Luigi to the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Center; 53 Church Street; Gloversville, NY 12078.
