Obituary of Dominic J. DeMaria
Dominic J. DeMaria, formerly of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on July 30, 2010 in Port Richey, Florida after a brief illness. Born February 9, 1929 he was the son of the late Jerolome and Teresa DeMaria.
Dominic served proudly with the United States Navy as a Seaman, 1st Class in WWII aboard the USS Tedius. He received the Victory and the Good Conduct Metal. He worked for Longview Fibre Co. and was a trouble shooter for the paper industry for more than 50 years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. DeMaria was a member of the Catholic War Vets bowling league for many years. He was also a member of the city softball league. Dominic was an avid New York Giants and New York Yankees Fan. Following retirement, he moved to Florida where he has resided ever since. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his late wife, Stella DeMaria; a son, Michael DeMaria; a brother, Thomas DeMaria; his mother in law, Marge Darmstadt; and brother in law, Joey Messina.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Darmstadt DeMaria, of Port Richey, Florida; his sons, John Denise DePhillips, Anthony Tony DeMaria, Jerry Harpo DeMaria; and his daughter, Teresa Bruce Bottisti, all of Amsterdam, NY. He is also survived by his father in law, Merritt Darmstadt; a brother in law Michael Darmstadt; two sisters in law, Sandy Messina and Helen DeMaria; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 9:30a.m. at the Cemetery Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel, Cemetery Road, Amsterdam, NY with Fr. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church or the charity of one's choice.
