Obituary of John Douglas Pond
John Douglas Pond, 62, a former resident of the Perth-Amsterdam area, died on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C.
He was born on February 20, 1948 to parents John Walter Pond and Martha Button Pond in Wellsboro, Pa. He is survived by wife, Judith Ann Hildberandt Pond, of Calabash, N.C.; son, Jeremy Daniel Pond, of Las Vegas, NV; and, daughter, Jana Katherine Tierney Thomas, of Manchester, CT. He adored his only grandchild, Cora Jude Tierney. He is also survived by sisters, Jill Mears and Joy Versetti, both of South Carolina; brother, James Pond, of Florida., and several nieces and nephews.
He worked as a funeral director early in his career in the Amsterdam-Gloversville area. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, earning a Silver Star, four Bronze Star medals and the Army Commendation Medal during his tour of duty in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970. At John's request, funeral services will be private.
