Obituary of Robert E. Field
Robert E. Field, Sr., 83, formerly of Round Barn Rd., Town of Glen, NY, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness.
Born in Altmar, NY on January 22, 1927 a son of Ernest A. and Myra Potter Field. Mr. Field was a Merchant Marine and was a graduate of the SUNY Maritime Academy at Ft. Schuyler in 1947 and was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. Robert worked for over 33 years as an Engineer at the General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY He was a member of the Glen Reformed Church and was a former church Deacon. He had a great love of the Thousand Islands, boats and his former home and farm on Round Barn Road. He married Carolyn R. Kirk in January of 1954, who passed away on January 2, 1993.
Survivors include four sons, Robert E. Field, Jr. Kathleen of Gansevoort, NY, Kirk M. Field of Town of Glen, NY, Eric D. Field of Aurora, Colorado, Paul E. Field Suzanne of the Town of Glen, NY. One daughter Melanie F. DuChene Russell of Sherrill, NY. One sister, Eleanor Main of Paducah, KY. Seven grandchildren, Rachel Field, Zachary Field, Madison Field, Bailey Field, Samantha Field, Caitlin and Shannon DuChene. One nephew Lee Main of Paducah, KY. Cousins and friends also survive. Robert was predeceased by a brother Horace Field.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3:30 at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, NY with Rev. Charles Hesselink presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the graveside service beginning at 1 until 3 at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY.
