Obituary of William Frey
Mr. William Frey, 85, of Phillips St., Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning August 7, 2010 at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 13, 1924 he was a son of Carl and Marion Green Frey. He was a life long area resident and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School.
Mr. Frey was first employed as the lumber manager in building 106 at the Scotia Naval Depot. He later was the co-owner of the former Murray s Service Station on Guy Park Ave in Amsterdam for over 30 years. He last worked for Slezak Petroleum in Amsterdam and retired in 1987.
William was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving stateside. He was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701 in Amsterdam and was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #101 in Amsterdam. He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He married Constance Gambardella Frey on April 11, 1948. She passed away on August 19, 2005.
Survivors include one son, Mark V. Frey Douglas Vogel of Seattle, Washington. One daughter, Nancy D. Mattas John of Amsterdam. One sister, Linda Holt of Broadalbin. Five grandchildren, Constance Ziskin David, C. William Staley Carola, Sara Mattas, Hanna Vogel Frey, and Rebecca Vogel Frey. Five great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Hastings, Tommy Ziskin, Mia and Aidan Staley. A sister-in-law, Rae Soulla. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. William was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Frey, one sister Betty DeHart and brother-in-law Steve Soulla.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 10, 2010 at 7:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father Robert O. DeMartinis presiding. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday evening August 10, 2010 prior to the funeral service from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
