Obituary of Maria E. Petrelia

Mrs. Maria E. Petrelia, age 89, of Gloversville, died Monday morning, August 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. She was born on July 15, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late John Zizzo and Mary Barry Zizzo. She was employed for a time at Paramount Theater in New York City. She was married on September 14, 1940 to Louis V. Petrelia. Together they lived in Brooklyn, then on Long Island for 12 years and also in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 12 years before coming to Gloversville in 1985. Mrs. Petrelia was of Catholic faith and enjoyed attending many of the functions at the Gloversville Knights of Columbus hall. Maria is survived by her husband, Louis V. Petrelia of Gloversville; her son, Louis J. Petrelia Carole of Mayfield; her brother, John Zizzo of Copiague, NY; 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, James Zizzo and Ellen Zizzo. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
