Obituary of Sadie I. Kenna
Sadie I. Kenna 96, of the Hillcrest Springs Adult Home, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at St. Mary's Hospital with family at her side.
Born in Amsterdam April 9, 1914, she was the last surviving daughter of the late John and Stella Miscauskas Samolis. A lifelong city resident, she attended local schools. Sadie worked for Mohawk Carpet Mills for a time, and later at St. Mary's Hospital where she served as a nurse's aide. Extremely dedicated to her profession, she was well known for her diligence and kindness to patients and their families. Her devout Catholic faith poured out to all she met along her long life's journey.
Sadie was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Secular Third Order of St. Francis. She and her late husband Ken were the proprietors of the former Stone Jug Antique Shop in Fort Johnson for a number of years. Sadie was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Vernon Ruska, her second husband Kenneth Kenna and sisters Regina Maksym and Virginia Belfance.
Her loving family includes her niece, Edwina Maksym, nephew Vernon Colditz; niece Elaine Letourneau; brother in law Rudy Colditz; step daughter Sheila Jim Wheeler; grandchildren; Rick Ronda Morey, Mark Cathy Morey, Deanna Stu Palczak; great grandchildren; Rick, Rob, Reanna Michelle, Angelina, Aubriella, Tiffany, McKenna and Jake; a great great granddaughter Aurora.
Services are Monday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 1-3 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sadie's name to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation in care of the funeral home office.
