Obituary of Edith B. Spencer

Mrs. Edith B. Spencer, age 88, of Gloversville, died Sunday morning, August 29, 2010 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. She was born May 29, 1922 in the town of Johnstown, the daughter of the late Scott Brown and Lula Knapp Brown. First employed at the former Edwards Box Company she later worked at Grandoe Glove Company for twenty years until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Spencer was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Gloversville. Edith was married November 23, 1950 to James H. Spencer who died November 15, 1980. She is survived by: two sisters, Nellie B. Skinner of Gloversville and Florence B. Clark Martin of Broadalbin; two brothers, Chester Brown Priscillaand Gordon Brown of Perth; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Carrie B. Warner and Frances B. Pitt, and by her brother, Richard Brown. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, September 2 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kathleen Chesnut officiating. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
