Obituary of Dorothy Whiting
Mrs. Dorothy Hayes Whiting, age 86, formerly of Schenectady, NY, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday September 7, 2010, after a brief illness at the River Ridge Living Center of Amsterdam.
Dorothy was born in Johnstown, NY on April 3, 1924 the daughter of the late Harry & Hazel Miller Hayes. She attended local schools and particularly enjoyed Sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Gloversville. Early on, Dorothy worked in the gum department of Beech Nut in Canajoharie. Continuing her education, she graduated in 1967 from Russell Sage College in Troy, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She retired from St. Claire's Hospital, Schenectady in 1980, as the Assistant Director of Nursing Education.
On January 25, 1942, Dorothy Hayes and Ray L. Whiting were united in marriage in Gloversville, NY.
Dorothy loved to take rides in the country with Ray and visit with family and friends. In later years, Dorothy created many knitted and crocheted baby sets and blankets that were cherished by all who received them.
Dorothy was a member of the Old Hellebergh Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and was very proud of her ancestral connections to the Mohawk Valley.
In addition to her husband of 68 years, Dorothy leaves behind three daughters, Lorraine R. Whiting of Charleston, NY; Lisabeth R. Whiting of Irvine, CA; and Livia R. Morse Timothy of Irvine, CA; one sister, Ethel Squires Robert of Gloversville; one brother Harry Hayes of Gloversville; two grandchildren, Lisa Albertin Shawn and Timothy Morse Jr.; three great grandchildren, Emalee, Charlotte and Christopher Albertin, and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
The family would like to thank the staff at River Ridge Living Center for the loving and tender care that Dorothy received during her stay with them.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. The arrangement have been entrusted to the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home; 85 West Main Street; Broadalbin.
