Obituary of Robert J. Pochily

Robert J. Pochily, age 80, of Deerfield Beach, FL passed away unexpectedly Monday morning September 13, 2010. Born June 12, 1930 in Johnstown, he was the son of the late John T. and Helena J. Hladik Pochily. A 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He worked as a warehouse attendant and later as a clerk for General Electric Company for thirty-eight years until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed cooking especially Slovak dishes, handcrafts, gardening and in later years, became an avid Marlins baseball fan. He was a member of the BPO Elks organization, Pompano Beach, FL Lodge #1898. He was united in marriage on November 30, 1985 to Antonette Roome. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Barbara A. Pochily of Lake Worth, FL, a stepson James J. Roome, Jr. of Boca Raton, FL, a stepdaughter Judith Donald Nare of Johnstown and many cousins. Mr. Pochily married his first wife, Marian J. Benkovic on August 21, 1954. She died February 10, 1975. There will be no viewing hours. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach, FL. Arrangements are pending. A graveside service and internment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice.
