Obituary of Olive J. Mergenthaler

Olive J. Mergenthaler, 76, of Amsterdam, formerly of Cobleskill, NY, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the River Ridge Living Center LLC. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 25, 1934 a daughter of Raymond and Katherine Blakeslee Weakley. Olive was raised in Mariaville, NY and attended Mariaville Schools. She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting dolls and bears, working on jigsaw puzzles and playing solitaire on the computer. She is survived by six brothers, Raymond Weakley Jr.Joyce of Newport Richey, FL, Richard WeakleyEthel of Mariaville, NY, Eugene Weakley Barbara of Syracuse, NY, James Weakley Caroll of Mariaville, NY, Roger Weakley Sue of Mariaville, NY and David Weakley Dee of Mariaville, NY. Six sisters, Emma Wilson of Tribes Hill, NY, Joan Czernis of Pattersonville, NY, Jeanette SwankerJames of Tribes Hill, NY, Geraldine Briggs Fred of Altamont, NY, Diane Jones James of Town of Florida, NY and Judith YauchlerGene of Clearwater, Florida. A dear friend whom she considered family JoAnn Vass of Minaville, NY. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Olive was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Lape and Frank Mergenthaler and her son Robert Lape Jr. who passed away in 1953. She was also predeceased by a brother Gary Weakley in 1973 and two brothers-in-law, Andrew Wilson, William Czernis and a dear friend, Gene Vass. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 20, 2010 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Interment of cremated remains will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon Springs, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday September 20, 2010 one hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 10:00A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mariaville Volunteer Fire Department c/o the funeral home.
