Obituary of Walter A. Gross
Walter A. Gross, of Morrow Road passed away Monday morning at St. Mary's Hospital with his family at his side. He was in his ninety fifth year.
Born on January 22, 1916 in Amsterdam he was the son of Alfred and Frieda Becker Gross and lived here his entire life. He worked first for Collette Manufacturing and Mohawk Carpet Mills. Walter retired in 1981 from the General Electric Company as a Class A Toolmaker, a position he had for forty years, and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he was a member of the Ridgerunners Hunting Club and Amsterdam Fish And Game League. He rode motorcycles and skied until he was eighty and was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy A. Menge on Sept. 6, 1942. They met at a dance studio and their union lasted for over fifty five years until her passing on Dec. 14, 1998. He leaves his children, Gary W. Gross and Hildy A. Rosenbarker both of Telluride, Co. ; grandchildren, Gerry, Lisa, Cheryl, Whitney and Emma; and a great granddaughter Nixi as well as many beloved in-laws and nieces and nephews.
A service will take place Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with the Rev. Dr. John A. Califano officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery. Calling hours are this evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his name to St. Luke's E.L. Church or the Montgomery Co. SPCA both in care of the funeral home office.
