Obituary of Shirley M. Goodbread

Shirley M. Goodbread passed away peacefully on September 29, 2010 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility surrounded by her daughters, Donna Dumar and Paula Tucker and her granddaughter Melissa Bott, all who loved her very, very much. She was an exceptional woman with a loving smile and a concerned way that always gave her family and friends unconditional love. She grew up in Gloversville, NY and was the daughter of Joe and Henrietta Joseph. She had seven siblings: Vernard, Joe, Kenneth, Harold P; Richard, Alice and Veronica who are all predeceased now except for her brother Harold Paul age 87. Her brother Harold Paul loved his sister and would come down once a week from Greenfield Center to visit with her and bring her choc chip cookies. On March 26, 1944, she married Kenneth L. Goodbread, Sr. who passed away on Feb 8, 2005. Ken loved Shirley dearly and he will be happy to have her with him now in heaven. One of Shirley's favorite things to do was to play cards and over the years, various family members enjoyed all the fun they had with her playing card games, especially rummy. Before being admitted to the Fulton County RHCF in 2007, she enjoyed getting together weekly with friends at the Ida McGinnis Senior Center. She had a huge heart and will be missed dearly by the following people: Her three children: Donna Richard Dumar, Kenneth Kathy Goodbread, Jr., and Paula Myron Tucker; her grandchildren: Robert and Mark Sharron Dumar, Deborah Geoff Lewis, Scott Sarah and Adam Mindy Goodbread, Sonya Henry Franklin, Melissa Brian Bott and Christopher Tucker; her great-grandchildren: Monique, Robert James, Christopher and Stephanie predeceased Dumar, Dustin, Mason, Wyatt and Eliora Goodbread, Kelsey Whalen, Audrey Franklin, and Noah and Brianne Bott; her brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Joyce Goodbread. She will also be missed by all of her nieces and nephews and the staff and residents at Fulton County RHCF. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 a.m. Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church Of The Holy Spirit, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, any donations of sympathy can be made to the Ida L. McGinnis Senior Citizen Center, 20 Third Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
