Obituary of Carmella DiMezza
Carmella "Millie" DiMezza, age 89, of Gloversville left this world peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday September 30, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.
She was born in Gloversville, NY on September 21, 1921 the daughter of the late Carmelo and Jenny Paciolla Piazza.
On September 28, 1947, Millie married David DiMezza. They shared 53 years united in marriage until his passing on January 5, 2001.
Millie worked in the glove industry until leaving to work at her husband's business, DiMezza's Sporting Goods.
She was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit and was the past president of the Women's Society of the Church. Additionally, Millie was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Earlier in her life she headed a Girl Scout Troop and later assisted with the Boy Scouts. Later in life Millie worked on the Fulton County Board of Elections.
Millie was the beloved mother of David J. DiMezza and daughter-in-law Barbara DiMezza Howson of Latham, NY.
In addition to her son, Millie is survived by a sister: Angeline Piazza Blowers Floyd of Amsterdam, NY and 8 brothers: Joseph Piazza Theresa of Troy, NY, Ralph Piazza Theresa of Delmar, NY, Roy Piazza Jennie of Laguna Hills, CA, Andrew Piazza Marie of Gloversville, NY, Peter Piazza Patricia of Gloversville, NY, Anthony Piazza Sofia of Gloversville, NY, Louis Piazza Gail of Amsterdam, NY and Frank Piazza Margaret of Arnold, MD.
She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 South Main Street, Gloversville. Internment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
