Obituary of Catherine Elizabeth Atwood

Catherine Elizabeth Atwood, 59, passed away October 2, 2010 at home with her loving family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Catherine was born November 22, 1950, daughter of the late William James and Alice Elizabeth Roberts Atwood in Oneonta, NY. Catherine lived most of her life in Amsterdam, NY, where she cared for the sick. She also cared for many children, including the pride of her life, her grandchildren. Catherine had a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp wit. She had a warm and caring heart and was generous with her family and friends. Any thing you needed and she had it, she gave it away. Catherine's passion was shopping. She also enjoyed going out on drives and loved spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Catherine is survived by her sisters, Elaine Wood, Constance Paparteys, Eleanor Cole, and Annette Atwood; her brothers Archie, William and Samuel Atwood; her children, Devon Atwood of Johnstown, NY, and daughters, Frances Choat and Bertha Nieves both of Amsterdam, NY. She is also survived by her precious grand children, Kevin Nieves, Austin and Bryan Choat, Angelina Atwood, Isabella Nunez and Kyara Nieves. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her care givers, Elaine Hart, Ashley, Kristina, Kristy and Vicky, and her Hospice Nurses. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers William J. Jr. and Dale Royce Atwood. Funeral Services for Catherine will be Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 1 o'clock at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam. Family will receive relatives and friends from 12 until 1, before the funeral service. Contributions in Catherine's memory may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam in care of the funeral home office.
