Obituary of Preston D. Wadsworth

Preston D. Wadsworth, 88 of Broadway in Fonda passed away October 20, 2010. He was born February 10, 1922, in Albany, NY, the son of the late Albert and Jane Dockstader Wadsworth. Preston is a life time resident of the area and attended local schools. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy. He was a Master Mechanic, last employed for the Montgomery County Highway Department until his retirement in 1979. His buddies knew him as "Ramrod". He enjoyed being around his home and "puttering" around in the garage. He was a very good welder and attended vocational schools to better learn the trade. He was also a member of the VFW Post 942 in Fonda. Preston was united in marriage February 28, 1943 to Mary Meaney, they shared a beautiful union of 66 years. In addition to his wife Mary Meaney Wadsworth, he is survived by one son, Lyle P. Wadsworth and his wife Kathleen of Fonda, NY as well as a brother Bruce Wadsworth of Fultonville, NY; grand children Pamela Wadsworth of Fonda, NY and Isaiah Wadsworth and his wife Meeka of Palatine Bridge, NY as well as his Great Grandchildren Cody and Lexy Wadsworth also of Palatine Bridge. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Jean Prime and Beverly Vincent. Funeral Services for Preston will be on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 12 O'clock at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 AM until 12PM prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the VFW Post 942, in care of the funeral home office.
