Obituary of Carl W. Seigle

Carl William Siegle, 75 of Johnstown, NY, passed away on Octobeer 24, 2010 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville after a long illness. He was born Jan 2, 1935 in Palatine Bridge to Charles H. and Janet Fisk Siegle, previously deceased years earlier. He was educated in the Canajoharie School system and spent his life in the Montgomery/Fulton County area. He served in the Army Reserves for several years. On Oct 21, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart Beverly Hart Siegle. They spent 54 very happy years together with friends teasing them as they still held hands. Carl was the proprietor of the Fonda Service Station, and was Fonda Street and Water Commissioner. He was then employed by Lane Construction Co. for 31 years, first as a heavy equipment mechanic, then as a heavy equipment repair estimator. Carl was very active in community activities. He was a member of St Cecilia's Church in Fonda for over 54yrs volunteering a lot of time and expertise on maintenance & up keep jobs around the church and was a Eucharistic minister and Bingo captain for over 30yrs.He was a volunteer fireman in Fonda for many years. He was a 4-H and Boy Scout's leader for years as well as active in Little League. He & his wife Bev were members of the Sacandaga Swingers Square Dance club for years enjoying all the new friends they made and all the new activities they did above and beyond just square dancing. He was also a member of the Moose Club for over 50 years. Carl was a long time member of the Trail Blazers Horse club holding various offices as well as a member of the NYS Saddle Horse Association and former president there of. He was awarded a commemorative plaque in 2007 from the NYSSHA for outstanding leadership, loyalty and commitment. More recently he was an active member in the Northeast Wood Workers Association - a new hobby Carl started only a few years ago but really loved, until the onset of his illness last year. NASCAR was another past time he enjoyed with his long time good friend Norm Paige, traveling to nearby tracks to watch the action live. One of the highlights of his retirement was taking a couple cruises with his family, meeting new people and getting a little pampered. He also enjoyed camping and fiddling with something that didn't work. He could fix just about any thing & always had to be busy doing something. But Carl's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends - and he had quiet a few. Carl always had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face and good word for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, he is survived by his children, Deborah AnnSteveOare of Johnstown, NY and Jeffrey Scott Stacy Siegle of Byron Georgia, grandchildren Julia Marie & Morgan Ashley Siegle and Katelyn Brown of Byron, Georgia, Casey Oare of Gloversville and Renee SteveNasadoski of Virginia, 2 great grandchildren Wyatt and Peyton Nasadoski of Virginia; sister-in-laws, Margaret Siegle of Canajoharie and Helen Siegle of Norway, Michigan, cousin Florence Briffa and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his God Children, Michael Grandy of Fonda, NY and Ashley Fancher of NC. He is predeceased by siblings Charles, Theodore, Louis Ann and Guy. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Wednesday, Nov 3, 2010 at Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. in Fultonville from 9am-11am.Mass will be held following the visitation at 11 AM at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church on Broadway in Fonda, Fr. Patrick Gallageher OFM Conv. will officiate. Followed by a memorial gathering at the church hall. In lieu of flowers contributions in Carl's memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic or an animal shelter of ones choice.
