Obituary of Inga Jacobs
Mrs. Inga Jacobs, 98 years old, of Minaville Street, died Wednesday at her residence. She was born May 21, 1912 in Wiborg, Finland, a daughter of Hartwig and Helene Schulze Ayrer. Mrs. Jacobs moved to N.Y.C. and was married to Jack Jacobs. This union lasted 35 years until his death in 1982.
Inga was privileged in many ways, but also lived through the horror of War in Europe. As a young child, Inga found great comfort in animals. She had a life long love for all of God's creatures, especially dogs. During WW2, Inga was very generous to less fortunate refugees. She had a life long love of "Old Europe", most especially a fierce pride of Finland. She will be remembered for her "Sisu", Finnish for inner strength.
Inga is survived by her daughter Ebba Slater of Philadelphia, 2 grandsons, and close friends Olive Meehan of Quebec, Canada and Andrea and Richard Holtzer of Amsterdam. She was predeceased by a brother, a sister and her dear friend Jim Meehan, with whom she shared her keen, and sometimes wicked, sense of humor.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family under the direction of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematorium in Schenectady. Memorial contributions: St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, Community Hospice of Amsterdam or National Mill Dog Rescue @ milldogrescue.org.
