Obituary of Kathleen E. Schmitt

Mrs. Kathleen E. Schmitt, age 68, of Gloversville, died Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. She was born February 20, 1942 in Whitehall, WI, the daughter of the late Kenneth Thompson and Edith Semb Thompson. After graduating from High School, Kathy received her degree in X-Ray and Medical Technology from a college in Minnesota. She was married to Jerome A. Schmitt on March 10, 1962. Together they came from Minneapolis to Gloversville in 1963. She became employed at the former Decca Record Company and worked there for about ten years as Chief Tester. She later became Office Manager at her husband's practice, Jerome A. Schmitt, DC, until her retirement about ten years ago. Kathy enjoyed latch hooking, traveling, going on cruises and motor-home trips, camping and fishing. Many years ago she was active with Brownies organizations with her late daughter, Deborah. She is survived by: her husband, Dr. Jerome A. Schmitt of Gloversville; a son, Jeffrey A. Schmitt of Scottsville, NY; three grandchildren, Jordan A. Schmitt and twins Karlee R. and Greggory A. Schmitt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathy was preceded in death by: her daughter, Deborah K. Schmitt; her brother, Richard Thompson and her sister, Audrey Barge. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 29 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
