Dear Kathy and Joe,
Your mom was my 4th grade teacher. She read the Little House books to us every afternoon. It was my favorite part of the day. As my daughters grew, they got hard cover editions for birthdays and Christmas until their collections were complete. I told them all about your mom.
At times she would share stories about both of you with us. Raising family while maintaining a home and a teaching career back in the 60's & 70's could not have been an easy task.
She taught us about manners as well as our daily class lessons.
I am sure there are many former students, parents and faculty members from Perth Central School who, along with me, are saddened by her recent death. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your families.
Thank you for all you taught me, Mrs. Lafoe. If there was more room, I would write this tribute to you 100 times.
With love, fond memories, and much gratitude.
Mary Pat Hildebrandt

Mary was my 4th grade teacher at Perth. She always kept a firm handle on the class, but there was always the caring gentle emotion that she exuded. We knew she really cared about our academic and personal growth as children. We took away a self discipline from her that served us well. I like to think that her role modeling helped me decide that teaching was what I wanted to do. I spent 33 years in the classroom myself. Kathy, I remember you well from our days at Perth. Please accept my condolences and extend them to your family. I'm sure your mom has been embraced in heaven with the comment that she has done her job well. We, her former students, are a testament to that.
Most sincerely,
Joe Inglese

Dear Kathy,
Regretfully, many years have passed since I have seen you and your mother. However, an occasional drive up Park St. has brought you and the fondest memories to mind, many times over the past few years.
I just wanted you to know that I am remembering you both now, and that I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.
Sincerely,
Paula

I also had Mary for 4th or 5th gr Reading. One of my fondest student memories was always seeing Mary with Mrs Stahl chit-chatting in the hallway. As a substitute teacher at B-P, I would run into them and saw a different perspective of them - they were funny, funny ladies!!! 20+ years later, I would run into Mary & Ginny, since they were ALWAYS together...where they would visit the Albany restaurant where I was a manager. Yes, they remembered me by name as well as my family & siblings.
Mary and Ginny are true, classic Ladies. Thanks to Mary, I always enjoy curling up with a great book.My sympathies to her family and close friends.

One of the best teachers along with Mrs Stahl that BP ever had! I attribute many of my successes today to the many things I learned in Mrs. Lafoes fifth grade class. She was super strict but as an adult I appreciate her intentions. And yes, I do remember the writing assignments, 100 times each, I will not talk in class, I will not move my lips while reading silently. I think its safe to say now that I was one of her secret 'room monitors' who kept watch when she left the room. She had a huge positive inpact on my childhood school years. She will be deeply missed. My condolences to the family and many friends.

I had Mrs.Lafoe as a teacher when I was in 5th grade. She was a firm teacher but fair. She was a great lady and will be deeply missed.I remember I saw her one time at christmas time in one of the local stores and she remebered who I was by name,it always amazes me how after all these years a teacher from grade school can remember your name.I wonder if that was because she liked me or if it had something to do with the fact that she had me write 500 times,"I will chew my gum quiet in class". I was very saddened to read of her passing. She loved what she did, being a teacher. My deepest sympathy-

I had Mary for a teacher in the fifth grade. She was a remarkable lady. She was very strict but ever so kind and gentle. There was always something to be learned or memorized. She has made an impression on my childhood memories. Thank you Mrs. Lafoe for making me who I am today. To the family, my heart and prayers go out to you. May you find peace knowing that she is in heaven and watching over us.
