Obituary of Hattie S. Stewart

Beloved mother Mrs. Hattie Skakel Stewart, age 101, formerly of Johnstown and Gloversville, died Monday morning, November 8, 2010 at her home in Voorheesville. She was born April 19, 1909 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Ralph Skakel and Gertrude Loucks Skakel. She was a 1927 graduate of Johnstown High School and later worked as a bookkeeper, employed by Clair Glove Company in Gloversville until her retirement in 1979. Mrs. Stewart was a member of life member of the St. Monica, Juanita, Mohawk Valley, Cayadutta, Chapter 486, Order of the Eastern Star. She was married October 19, 1931 to Olin Stewart who died December 20, 1979. Survivors include: her son, Richard G. Stewart Beth of Voorheesville; four grandchildren, Gina Marie Dunn John of Hilton Head, SC; Jessica Stewart of Voorheesville, David Stewart of New York City and Jeffrey Stewart of Torrance, CA; two great-grandsons, John Patrick Dunn IV and Nicholas Michael Dunn. Several nieces and nephews also survive: Marilyn Stilwell Dakin John of Poughkeepsie, Cheryl Skakel Barnard Jerry of Monticello, Barbara Skakel Plantz John of Leesburg, FL, Floyd Skakel Marie of New Windsor, Jack Skakel of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Suzann Nunnally of Melborne, FL. Hattie was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Frederick Joe; two brothers, Ralph Skakel Bettye and Floyd Skakel Ruth; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Stilwell William and a brother-in-law, Charles Stewart. The Stewart family wishes to give a special thank you to Dr. Eugene Haber and his staff for their care and concern. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, November 12, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 12 noon with the Rev. Cynthia J. VanAllen officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd; Loudonville, NY 12211 or the Ellis Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1015, Schenectady, NY 12301.
