Obituary of Shirley DiCaprio Gardner

Mrs. Shirley DiCaprio Gardner, 75, of Truax Rd. Amsterdam, formerly of Rome, NY, passed away Friday November 12, 2010 at Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 14, 1935 a daughter of George and Beatrice Lingenfelter DiCaprio Sr. She was educated in Amsterdam Schools and was a resident of Rome, NY and Amsterdam, NY and was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Shirley worked for the Rome, NY school district as a cook for many years. She often times would make special treats for the faculty and staff. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved being with her family especially at the family reunions. Shirley also enjoyed bowling. She married Ray Gardner Jr. on January 28, 1956, he passed away on November 2, 2001. Survivor?s include one son, Ray Gardner III of Indiana. Three sisters, Jean LaBate, Elaine Furman and Patricia Mannino all of Amsterdam, NY. Four grandchildren, Brandan, Allison, Christina and Darren. Sister-in-law, Margaret DiCaprio of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Shirley was predeceased by two brothers, George DiCaprio and Tom DiCaprio. Three sisters, Gloria Metallo, Carol Busseno and Barbara Poulin Quinn. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 15, 2010 at 8:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main St. Amsterdam with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday November 14, 2010 from 3:00 to 6:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital or to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam both c/o the funeral home.
