Obituary of Ellen M. Rulison Alvord

Ellen M. Alvord, 85, formerly of Mayfield, N.Y. passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Extended Care Nursing Home. She was born on June 26, 1925 in Amsterdam, NY. She was the daughter of the late Christopher and Evelyn Lench Doak. She graduated from Wells High School and was a homemaker and waitress at the family owned business The Overrock Inn, Wells, NY. She is survived by a son, James Rulison Karen of Mayfield; three granddaughters: Jodi Werner Michael of Ballston Spa, Jenny Rulison of Mayfield and Debbie Barkley of Horsheim, PA; a stepson, Steve Alvord of Charlotte, NC; a stepdaughter, Nancy Baker Tom of Manassas, VA; a sister, Shirley Heffernan John of Jensen Beach, FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a great grandson, Aiden Werner. She is predeceased by her first husband, Richard Rulison, whom she married August 11, 1945; a daughter, JoAnn Barkley and her second husband, Vincent Alvord. Family and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, November 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bonnie Orth presiding. Interment will be at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church, 22 North Main Street, Mayfield, NY 12117.
