Obituary of Margaret Carriola Spragno
Mrs. Margaret Carriola Spragno, 83, of Cranes Hollow Rd., Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly Thursday November 25, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 31, 1927 the daughter of Luigi and Maria Tancredi Carriola. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Margaret worked for a time as a glove maker in various mills in Gloversville and Amsterdam. Most of all she was a homemaker who took wonderful care of her family. She was a Communicant of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman, NY. She was a member of the Club 60 in Amsterdam and was a PTA Life Member. She also was very active in the Girl Scouts of America with her children. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, playing cards, bowling and going to the casino. Mrs. Spragno loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandson Riley as well as spending the winters in Florida with her dear cousins Sophie, Matt, Catherine and Sandy.
Margaret married Joseph J. Spragno on November 3, 1946. He passed away on January 26, 1996. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Joanne M. Kowalczyk Stephen of Amsterdam and Barbara A. Agresta Dave Semo of Broadalbin, NY. Five grandchildren, Stacey Kowalczyk, Melissa Weatherwax George, Edward Kowalczyk Stef Scarcella, Ashley Agresta, Jade Agresta Marc Prefore and a cherished great grandson Riley Joseph Murphy. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday November 29, 2010 at 9:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00A.M. at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Pawling St. Hagaman with Father Pascal "Pat" Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday November 28, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00P.M. at the funeral home.
