Obituary of Carmela T. D'Arcangelis

Mrs. Carmela T. D'Arcangelis, 85, of Main Street, Fort Plain, NY died peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, November 29, 2010 following a brief illness. Born in Manhattan, NY on March 15, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Maria Difigola Merlino. Carmela was educated in New York City Schools and moved to the area in 1943. A devout Christian woman, Carmela was a faithfull parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, music and most of all spending time with her large and loving family. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Arthur C. D'Arcangelis who she married on March 20, 1943 in the chapel of Laredo Army Air Field in Texas; seven sons, Andrew D'Arcangelis, Rocco Deborah D'Arcangelis, Joseph Patricia D'Arcangelis, James Deborah D'Arcangelis, Arthur Laura D'Arcangelis, Ore Sharon D'Arcangelis and Christopher Susan D'Arcangelis; two daughters, Margo Stevan Bingaman and Monica D'Arcangelis. Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; a brother Nicholas Merlino; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two daughters Maria Elena and Catherine M. D'Arcangelis; and a sister, Rose Caporusso. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 10 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with the Rev. Dennis Murphy as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Memorial contributions in Mrs. D'Arcangelis' name may be made to her beloved Church.
