Obituary of Ray J. Hazzard

Ray J. Hazzard, 86, of Johnstown, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. He was born January 15, 1924 in Randall, NY, the son of the late Ray and Emma Oathout Hazzard. Ray was employed at General Electric in Schenectady where he worked as a rigger for thirty five years until his retirement in 1986. On October 1, 1949, he married his sweetheart, the former Ida Cristiano. They shared over fifty nine years together until her passing January 1, 2009. Ray was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. He loved to ice skate in his younger years and enjoyed golfing, carpentry and spending time at the camp in Caroga Lake he shared with his wife. Ray was a member of the Johnstown Moose and also the Johnstown Senior Citizens. He was a true gentleman and he will be very sadly missed. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Anna Mac Gowan of Johnstown; a brother-in-law, Dr. George Cristiano of New Jersey and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his beloved wife, Ray was predeceased by a sister, Nellie Decker. Family and friends are invited and may call Thursday, December 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a prayer service will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday, December 3 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, South Main Street, Gloversville with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 South Main Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
