Obituary of Frank Alvarez

Mr.Frank "Chico" Alvarez, 86, of McElwain Ave, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday December 7, 2010 at the River Ridge Living Center LLC. Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 18, 1924, a son of Francisco and Isabel Arenas Alvarez. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1941. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II in the European and Pacific Theatres. He was employed for a time at the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam and the U.S. Army Depot in Scotia. He last was employed at Amsterdam Printing and Litho Co. retiring in 1989. Frank was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 701 in Amsterdam and the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department during the 1950's. He also was a Cub Scout Master of Pack #21 and Troop #25 in Amsterdam. Mr. Alvarez was an avid Bowler and bowled in mixed leagues and the former Kiwanis Club League. He is survived by three sons, Frank A. Alvarez and his wife Ann of Ft. Johnson, NY. Kenneth J. Alvarez and SheilaVanHeusen of Amsterdam and George P. Alvarez and his wife Terri Jo of Amsterdam, NY. One daughter, Elizabeth Keller and her husband Kenneth of Amsterdam. One brother, John Alvarez of Manasses, VA. Two sisters, Mary Steenburgh of Arizona and Juana Malizewski of Burnt Hills, NY. Nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday December 10, 2010 at 10:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father John Medwid presiding. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday Today December 9, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Frank's memory to a charity of one's choice.
