Obituary of Walter D. Abrams
Mr. Walter D. "Buzzy" Abrams, Jr., 87, of Manny's Corners Road, Amsterdam passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 15, 1923, he was the son of Walter D. and Carrie Quinlan Abrams. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
He was a US Army Veteran serving during World War II. Buzzy worked many years as a self-employed trucker after which he worked for the Town of Amsterdam Highway Department for many years.
He was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman. Buzzy was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and was also an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife the former Charlotte Frasier whom he married September 25, 1947. Also surviving is a son: Gary and Delta Abrams of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina/ a daughter: Denice and George Palmieri of Rochester, NY: three sisters, Evelyn Lee of Broadalbin, NY, Marion Gagnan of Maryland and Doris Schulz of Florida; three grandchildren; Darcy Abrams and Lisa and Lauren Palmieri; two great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Calvary Reformed Church, 10 Church Street, Hagaman with The Rev. Stanley Craig presiding. Interment will follow in the Hagaman Cemetery, Hagaman, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, December 17, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made in Buzzy's memory to a charity of one's choice.
