Obituary of Benjamin F. Auspelmyer

Benjamin F. Auspelmyer, 88, of Maple St., Broadalbin, NY passed away Thursday December 16, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 11, 1922, a son of Benjamin Auspelmyer and Carrie Heitkamp, he was a lifelong area resident and a 1940 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Mr. Auspelmyer was WWII U.S. Army Veteran, having served in France and Germany as an MP and medic. He worked for a time as a mechanic for the former Olbrych's Dairy and Dunn Truck Sales, both in Amsterdam. In 1963 he opened Ben's Garage in Broadalbin, NY and worked there well into his eighties. Mr. Auspelmyer enjoyed cars, computers, electronics, hunting, and fishing. Benjamin was married for 62 years to the former Beverly Yager until she passed away on October 12, 2005. Survivors include two sons and a daughter: Glenn Auspelmyer and his wife Nancy of Gansevoort, NY, Gary Auspelmyer and his wife Patricia of Ballston Spa, NY, and Gail Auspelmyer and her long time companion, Charles Aldous, of Gloversville, NY. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jodie, Tiffany, Amanda, Jamie, and Danielle, four great grandchildren: Connor, Morgan, Logan, and Madison, and two brothers and a sister: Wilfred Auspelmyer and his wife Rhea of Amsterdam, Howard Auspelmyer of Amsterdam, NY, and Beverly Auspelmyer of Amsterdam. In addition, he had several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 19, 2010, at 4:00 pm. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with Rev. David Pilliod presiding. Interment will take place in the spring with full military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 19, 2010, from 2:00 to 4:00P.M. at the funeral home.
