Obituary of Samuel Joseph Semyone

Samuel Joseph Semyone, 54, of Broadway Ext. passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at his home. Sammy was in the company of his loving family and had fought a long and brave battle. Born in Amsterdam on Christmas Day 1955, he was the son of Joseph and Shirley Payne Semyone, Sr. A graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, he was a member of its football team. A sports lover, Sammy also played recreational softball and basketball, was a member of the Amsterdam Dart League and enjoyed fishing, camping and bowling. His greatest passion was bocce and he was a member of the Port Jackson Bocce Club. He was a number 1 Jets fan, and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Sammy worked for a number of years at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital until the onset of his illness. He leaves his loving family: mother and step father, Shirley and Gerald Fox of Amsterdam; daughters, Nicole Semyone and Kaitlin Semyone; sisters, Joanne Biggie, Sandy Bill Chirico, Mary Ron Parillo, Linda Mike Parillo and Marjorie Tony Sheckton all of Amsterdam; his brother, Joseph Mary Semyone Jr. of Choctaw, OK.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, many dear friends and his beloved companion "Shorty". Sammy was predeceased by his father, Joseph Semyone, Sr. and his sister and brother in law, Karen and Paul Wassel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11:15 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call today Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Contributions may be made in Sam's memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute or to Hope House in care of the funeral home office.
