Obituary of Donald R. Thum
Donald R. Thum Jr., 69, St. Hwy 30A, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with his loving family at his bed side.
Born October 28, 1941 in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Donald R. and Adelaide V. Herba Thum Sr., he was a Gloversville High School graduate and attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
Don was employed as a State Trooper for the N.Y.S. Police for twenty years and was stationed at Troop T Barracks at the Fultonville Exit 28 of the N.Y.S. Thruway.
He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing a good game of golf and was an avid NY Giants fan.
On June 29, 1968 he married the former Loretto A. Cranker. Besides his wife, Don is survived by a son, Donald Jason "DJ" Thum and his wife Amy of Fonda; a daughter, Christine A. Bagnardi and her husband Jason of Fonda; three brothers David Thum of Johnstown, Danny Thum of Atlanta, GA and James Thum of Jupitor, FL; a sister Janet Thum Rackvica of Stuart, FL; three grandchildren, Thomas J. Bagnardi, Julia M. Bagnardi and Bella E. Thum; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda with the Fr. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv. as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Don's memory to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
