Obituary of John L. Hall
John L. Hall Sr., age 92, of Gloversville passed away on Thursday December 30, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.
John was born in Macon, GA on March 17, 1918 the son of the late George and Rose Cargle Hall.
On January 1, 1949, John married the former Gloria C. Leslie. They have shared 61 years united in marriage.
John proudly served his country during WWII, serving in the United States Army.
He was a past member of the Sacandaga Elks Lodge. John liked playing cards and enjoyed watching sports. His favorite athlete was Tiger Woods. John was an extremely hard working man and set a work ethic standard for his family.
In addition to his wife Gloria C. Hall, John is survived by his 11 children: Sharon Hall of Schenectady, Patricia Hall-Murray Joshua of Schenectady, Joseph Hall Sr. Roseanne of Amsterdam, Monica Taylor Mitchell of California, George Hall Sr. of Connecticut, Janet Rambo Freddie of Schenectady, John Hall Jr. of Savannah, GA, Tracy Hall of Gloversville, Kelly Polk of Schenectady, Constance Hall of Schenectady and Elizabeth Thigpen of Schenectady.
Additional survivors include a stepson Charles Leslie of Atlanta, GA, a brother Benjamin Hall Christine of Gloversville; 56 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; four brothers-in-law: James Brown Catherine, Jack Leslie Ethelene, Thomas Leslie and Stanley Leslie; two sisters-in-law, Marion Sephas Kenny and Maude Hall; nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by five brothers: E.Z., George, Jesse, Charlie and Murray and three sisters: Rose Horton Walter, Emma Brown William and Rena Mathias John.
Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon on Tuesday January 4, 2010 at The Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the conclusion of calling hours at 12:00 Noon with the Rev. Melvin Brown, Pastor of Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion of Albany, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made in memory of John to the Wells Nursing Home, 201 West Madison Ave, Johnstown, NY 12095. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Wells House as well as Nathan Littauer Hospital for the care John received while he was with them.
