Obituary of Ceceilia T. Pankonin

Mrs. Ceceilia T. Pankonin, 93, formerly of Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe, NY. Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 29, 1917 she was the daughter of the late Umberto and Rose Fusco DeRose. Ceceilia was a lifelong city resident and was employed as a cashier at the former P&C Super Market in Amsterdam at the 5 corners for 17 years, retiring in 1983. She was also employed for a time at Kem's Cleaners on Guy Park Avenue. Cecelia was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was also a beloved fan of the NY Yankees. Survivors include her son, Edward P. Pankonin and his wife Nora of Liberty, NY; three grandchildren, Scott Pankonin and his wife Leslie of San Francisco, CA, Christine Cope of Winter Garden, FL and Jennifer Caskey and her husband Thomas of Orlando, FL; three great grandchildren Aiden, Jack and Cooper; one sister, Beatrice Tedisco of Schenectady, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Prayer service will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 8:15a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15a.m. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 6p.m. until 8p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation & Residential Health Care Facility, 420 Rockland Road, Roscoe, New York 12776, whom took great care of Ceceilia in her final years.
