Obituary of Donald L. Belfance

Mr. Donald L. Belfance, 80, of Amsterdam, NY, died January 2, 2011 at the Mountain Valley Hospice Home, Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 25, 1930 a son of the late Albert and Anna Hunt Belfance. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for many years as a custodian for the Broadalbin-Perth School District. On January 22, 1949 he married the former Elizabeth "Tish" Dievendorf. They would have been married 62 years this year. In addition to his loving wife Elizabeth Belfance, survivor's include eight loving children, Duane and Sandy Belfance of Latham, Roxanne and Andy Duncan of Gloversville, Jane and Fred Yager of Canajoharie, Donna and Roger Gifford of Florida, Alton and Susan Belfance Sr. of Sharon Springs, Naomi and Larry Davis of Texas, Karen and Jeffery Martin Sr. of Gloversville, and Kathy Belfance of Broadalbin. Twenty three grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren. One sister, Beverly Gilmaier. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson who passed away in Afghanistan Robert Mogensen, a great-grandchild Jordan Santiago, one brother James Belfance and a sister Jane Smith. He was a loving husband and father and an avid Hunter and Fisherman. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday January 6, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Interment will be in the spring in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078.
