Obituary of Stanley Fura

Mr. Stanley Fura, 82, of Church St., Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning January 5, 2011 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 7, 1928 a son of the late Jacob and Helen Jaszczebski Fura. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1945 graduate of Amsterdam High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and reached the rank of Seaman First Class. Mr. Fura was employed for over 30 years at the General Electric Company where he retired as a Senior Design Draftsman. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a former member of the P.A.V. Stanley also was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Forever Friends Social Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He married the former Gertrude E. Jackowski Fura on February 24, 1952. She passed away on April 15, 1999. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Fura and his wife Barbara of State College, PA and Frank Fura and his wife Francine of Broadalbin, NY. One daughter, Kathleen Fura of Amsterdam, NY. Three sisters, Josie Bandos of Saratoga, NY, Mary Ruminski of Schenectady, NY and Sadie Gutowski of Amsterdam, NY. Seven grandchildren, Frances, Eric, Scott, Zachary, Katie, Krista and Ashley. Three great-grandchildren Davontae, Daeshon and Jack. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Stanley was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, William, John ?Pete?, and Franciszek Fura. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 9:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00A.M. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Cornell St., Amsterdam with Rev. Robert O. DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. In Lieu of Flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Food Bank c/o the funeral home.
