Obituary of Ronald R. Orscian

Ronald R. "Zom" Orscian, Sr. 78, of Northampton Road, passed away January 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born September 21, 1932 in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late William and Stephanie Morris Orscian. He moved to Amsterdam in 1943 and was a 1950 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Ronald was a U. S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was first employed by the Barge Canal in NY and later served as an Amsterdam fireman for a number of years. He worked as an engineer for the General Electric Company in Schenectady until retiring in 1989 at which time he formed his own business ZOMCO, Inc. in Amsterdam. It was a company that repaired and inspected gas turbines at home and many companies throughout the world. He was a member of the John J. Wyzomyrski Post 701 of the American legion. He was also a member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course and the Bigelow's Weaver Club. He spent many hours golfing and loved the sport. Ronald was a parishioner of the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. On September 14, 1958 he married the former Violet Garwacki. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Ronald R. Orscian, Jr. of Amsterdam; sister Linda Kilmer of Schenectady; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass that will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Fr. John Medwid as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Private burial of his cremated remains will take place in spring with military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
