Obituary of Charles P. Van Allen
Charles Phillip "Butch" Van Allen Jr., age 61, of Gloversville passed away on Sunday January 23, 2011 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever missed.
Charlie was born in Gloversville, NY on January 31, 1949 the son of Florence Hayes Van Allen and the late Charles P. Van Allen Sr.
He was a 1968 graduate of Mayfield High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968, serving as a heavy machine operator with 2 tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association as well as the Vietnam Veterans Association.
Charlie was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending summers camping and boating on the lake. He was a great cook, who enjoyed having gatherings for his family and friends. Charlie was always devoted to helping others in need. Most of all Charlie cherished his family. His family and friends will miss his humor, constant joking and laughter.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sandra Van Allen Fraggle, three daughters: Sandra Van Allen of Gloversville, Kristin Agerter Jamey of Gloversville, Nicole Page Dan of Mayfield, a son, Charles Holland of Perth. Charlie was "Pop" to his 7 grandchildren: Kassondra and Alec Hickey, Colby, Sallyann and Katarina Agerter, Nyla and Brody Page.
Additional survivors include: his mother Florence Van Allen, his mother in law, Evelyn Brindle John, his siblings: Leo A. Van Allen Cynthia, Harvey Van Allen Sandra, Florence M. Van Allen George, Steven Van Allen Jennette, Edward Van Allen, Debra Morrison Edward, Anthony Van Allen and Kenneth Van Allen Robin. He is also survived by numerous friends and family.
Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 27, 2011 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday January 28, 2011 at the Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont Street, Gloversville, with the Rev. Cynthia Van Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to the Mayfield Servicemen's Club, P.O. Box 514, Mayfield, NY 12117.
