Obituary of Anthony J. Sainato
Anthony J. "Tony" Sainato Jr., 84, of Bunn St., Amsterdam, passed away Sunday January 23, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness.
Born in Albany, NY on April 13, 1926 a son of the late Anthony J. and Caroline Victoria Petrowska Sainato Sr. He was a lifelong Amsterdam area resident and was a Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. He attended college for a time and studied to be an aviation mechanic. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II receiving the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He served aboard the U.S.S. Passaconoway AN 86 and the U.S.S. Passaic AN 87.
Mr. Sainato was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and currently Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was a former member of the American Legion and the Catholic War Veterans. He also was a member of the former St. Michael's Club and was on the St. Michael's club Bowling Team. He was very active in the Boy Scouts and former Troop # 23 in Amsterdam. Anthony was a family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He married Pauline Uhlinger Sainato on April 11, 1948. In addition to his loving wife survivors include one son Edward Sainato Christine of Amsterdam, NY. Three daughters Sharon Ashton Michael of Granite Falls, Washington. Mary Minkler Robert of Perth, NY. Carol Insogna Richard of Amsterdam, NY. One sister Gloria Mazur of Amsterdam. 10 grandchildren;Kari Ashton, Kelly Lykken Chris, Brandt MinklerStacia, Rene Purcell Michael, Kristen, Karen, Kimberly and Brian Lemanski, Anthony "A.J." and Amber Sainato. 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Sainato was predeceased by a son David Sainato in 1949 and a sister Julia "Sis" Sainato on September 10, 1970.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 27, 2011 at 11:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John St., Amsterdam with Rev. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Full military honors will be conducted following the Mass at Church. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 27, 2011 prior to the Funeral Mass beginning at 8:30A.M. and commencing at 10:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. In Lieu of Flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Montgomery County Unit, 260 Osbourne Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211.
