Obituary of Donald R. Robbins
Mr. Donald R. Robbins, age 86, of Gloversville, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home.
He was born on May 7, 1924 in Gloversville, the son of the late Lester Robbins and Grace Gifford Robbins. A 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School, he soon after joined the US Navy and served his country as a carpenter's mate during WWII for three years. Following the war he became employed as a lineman at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. He also worked as a foreman at the former A & G Market in Johnstown. He retired as a truck driver, employed by Boss Linco of Amsterdam for many years.
Mr. Robbins was a member of V.F.W. Post #2077 in Gloversville.
Donald was married on August 26, 1944 to Virginia Bilger who died January 30, 2006. Survivors include: two sons, Gary L. Robbins Julia of Gloversville and Richard W. Robbins of Johnstown; four grandchildren, Christopher Robbins, Susan Robbins, Nicholas Robbins and Sherry Robbins; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four siblings: Lena Simonds, Ernest Robbins, Harold Robbins and Clyde Robbins.
A graveside service will take place and will be announced in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd; Loudonville, NY 12211 or to the charity of your choice.
