Obituary of Dorothy Valerio

Mrs. Dorothy Valerio , 88, of Princeton St., Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly Monday January 31, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Schecectady, NY on January 25, 1923 a daughter of the late John and Ann Turk Gregoire. She was educated in Schenectady and attended the former Mount Pleasant High School. Dorothy worked for many years as a waitress at the Antlers Country Club in Amsterdam. She was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Club 60 of St. Mary's Hospital and also was a member and volunteer with the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. Dorothy cherished being with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was proud of her independence and strong faith. She married Peter A. Valerio on April 27, 1941. He passed away on September 20, 1985. Survivors include two children, Peter M. Valerio and his wife Michele of Amsterdam, NY and Diane Yurkewicz and her husband William of Saratoga Springs, NY. Four grandchildren, Peter Amy Valerio, Tisha Vidulich Peter, Susan Foss David, Michael Yurkewicz Betsi. Nine great-grandchildren, Peter Michael III, Meadow, Patrick, Victoria, Emma, Abby, Will, Zoe and Alex. Three sisters, Marie Mashuta, Delores Relyea and Catherine DiCocco. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Dorothy was also predeceased by two brothers, William and John Gregoire and four sisters, Florence Crandall, Esther DiSalvatore, Helen Gregoire and Rosemary Davis. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday February 5, 2011 at 9:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John St., Amsterdam with Father Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday February 4, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
