Obituary of Esther Shamon

Esther Shamon, age 89, of Gloversville passed away on Monday January 31, 2011 at Albany Medical Center in Albany. She was born in Gloversville, NY on November 19, 1921 the daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Saverase Frascatore. Esther proudly served her county by serving in the United States Air Force. On July 23, 1955, Esther was united in marriage to Elmer Shamon. They have shared 55 years united in marriage. Esther was of the Catholic faith and was a parishioner at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. She was a member of the Sister's of the Holy Spirit. Esther was a substitute teacher for various schools in both fulton and Montgomery counties. Esther loved hummingbirds as well as watching all other kinds of birds. In her younger years she enjoyed skiing and traveling. Esther is survived by her husband of 55 years, Elmer Shamon of Gloversville, a son Mark Shamon of Gloversville, two brothers: John Frascatore and Al Frascatore as well as four sisters: Louise Caruso Tony, Jeanie Clark Menard, Michelena Frascatore and Leona Frascatore. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by two sisters; Rose Frascatore and Lucy Giaquinto. Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday February 4, 2011 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday February 5, 2011 at the Church of the Holy Spirit; 149 South Main Street, Gloversville with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Esther to the American Stoke Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
