Obituary of Anne Murphy
Anne Follett Murphy, 91 a former Fonda resident, passed away Friday February 11, 2011.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 26, 1919, to the late Charles A. and Katherine Gardner Follett, she graduated from Canajoharie High School and later Katherine Gibbs secretarial school in Boston, Mass. She then moved to New York City where she pursued an administrative and secretarial career with RCA. It was in New York City where she met her future husband M. Patrick Murphy. Anne married Patrick in 1946 and he remained her life partner for thirty eight years until his passing in 1984. After living in New York for 27 years, she and Patrick moved back to this area and lived in Fonda. Anne was a member of Fonda Reformed Church. She was an avid golfer and long time member of the Ekwanok Country Club of Manchester Vermont and the Antler's Country Club of Amsterdam. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, playing bridge and travel cruising. Anne is survived by her cousins Jean Follett McCullough of Amsterdam and her son Randy Bonnie McCullough.
At Anne's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside funeral service will take place in the spring to be announced at the Fort Plain Cemetery. Anne will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband M. Patrick Murphy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fonda Reformed Church. Anne's arrangements are under the care of the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville.
