Obituary of Estelle Meilunas

Estelle "Mickey" Meilunas, 90, Fort Johnson Avenue, passed away Monday evening at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness. She was born April 26, 1920 in Amsterdam, NY and she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Alikonis Miciulis. Estelle lived most of her life in Amsterdam. She attended local schools, graduating from St. Casimir's class of '34 and went on to graduate as Valedictorian from St. Francis Academy in Pittsburgh, PA, class of '38. She was last employed at the Noteworthy Company, retiring in 1983. She was a communicant of the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church. Estelle enjoyed crafts, gardening, square dancing, camping and spending winters in Georgia and Florida with her long time companion "Mitch" who passed away in 2003. She was a former member of the Trailblazers square dancers, Club 60 and Sir William Johnson seniors of Fort Johnson. Estelle was married to Joseph Meilunas, December 1940. He passed away in 1965. Survivors include two daughters Sandra Snyder and her husband Douglas of Saugerties and their children Brian, Bruce and Jeffrey; Judy Radik and her husband Peter of Perth and their children Scott and Amy; a son Michael Meilunas and his wife Sandra of Galway and their children Michael, Melanie, Jordan, Jameson, Mercy and Marshall and twelve great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a sister Helen Alisauski. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. O. Robert DiMartinis officiating. Burial will follow at St. Casimir's Cemetery in Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Estelle's name to Montgomery SPCA or EWTN in care of the funeral home.
