Obituary of William J. Buczkowski

William J. Buczkowski, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. He was born in Amsterdam on March 27, 1922, the last surviving child of the late Frank and Mary Kozlowski Buczkowski. Educated locally, he lived here his entire life. Bill and his wife owned and operated the former Schuyler Inn in the city for a number of years. He was also employed by the Greater Amsterdam School District as a custodian until he retired. During World War II, he proudly served his country as a pharmacist mate with the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Bill was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion, the Polish American Veterans and the PNA. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church. On October 15, 1944, he was united in marriage to the former Regina Blonkowski. In addition to his beloved wife of sixty six years, he leaves his sons Gary and his wife Joyce Buczkowski of Clay, NY, and Kevin and his wife Christina Buczkowski of Broadalbin; he was the proud "Dziadzi" of Sarah and William Buczkowski and Jessica and Matthew Samko; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude Szumaslawski. The con-celebrated Mass Of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus' Church, Cornell Street by Frs. O. Robert DeMartinis and John Medwid. Relatives and friends are invited and may call today Thursday from 5-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Bill's name to St. Stanislaus' Church or to the American Diabetes Asso. both in care of the funeral home office.
