Dear David,
I just read your Dad’s obit in the Courier-Standard-Enterprise. I’m so sorry. Yet reading about him brought back memories. But first let me say that he always impressed me as a decent man. Plus a man of action and leadership. I looked up to him and respected him. He was a really good person.
Here’s what I particularly remember:
How he looked when he led the hymn “I Love to Tell the Story” during Sunday School. I was never that thrilled with the hymn but he always looked radiant when he’d lead it. He looked like the hymn really meant something to him. Through the years his face comes to me every time we sing it in my New Jersey church.
That his birthday is March 6th. My birthday is March 5th and I always felt a let down on the 6th. As a child I took some comfort in knowing that at least that day could be special to someone else even if it wasn’t me.

Your neighbors from the opposite end of Goodrich Ave., Kevin, Paige and Stephanie, join me in extending our condolences to you all. Much too quickly the time for those ball games on your empty lot, trips to the insurance office for advice, the lengthy walks down the neighborhood streets, the greetings to those seated on their porches or working on their lawns, and most recently the meeting of the grandhildren at the bus stop has passed.
Bill will always be remembered for his smile, his friendly wave, support for athletics in Fort Plain, his attention to our need for advice and assistance, his love for his family, and for his devotion to God.

Dear Mrs. Briggs, Sharon, Jack and Family:
I feel I have part of the Briggs Family for more than fifty years; Sharon and I used to walk to each other's homes in Colonie through the Saddlewood Elementary school gounds. Sharon and family moved to Fort Plain after 5th grade, but our frienship has endured to this day - and has encompassed our husbands for more than 36 years. Through all our years together, Sharon kept us informed of life in the Briggs family and how everyone was doing; we always prayed for a return to health when someone was ill. That was not to be this time and we have all lost a dear, fine man who, together with Mrs. Briggs, raised what is arguably one of the kindest, most caring families any of have ever known.
Our hearts are with you all during this sad and difficult time. Be strong and take care of each other. You have our love, prayers and, always, our friendship.
