Obituary of Elizabeth B. Compani
Elizabeth "Betty" B. Compani 93, of Tribes Hill, passed away peacefully Sunday morning in the loving company of her family after a brief illness.
Born in Broadalbin, July 1, 1917, she was a graduate of Broadalbin High School. For over seventy years, Betty was an accomplished organist in the area. She played at one time for the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church of Amsterdam. As a member of the Emblem Club, she was organist for the many services and activities of the organization. Betty was employed as a bookkeeper for her husband's business the former Maxwell House Diner on Chuctanunda Street in Amsterdam for 27 years. She also worked in the same capacity for New York State, G.E., Beechnut and Poly Ply. Betty was a member of the Order Of The Eastern Star and the local chapter of the D.A.R. She loved to knit and created beautiful afghans for family and friends. She also loved to play cards at the Arkell Hall especially the game Skip-Bo, and was active in the area's Community Concerts. Betty was active until recently and her family is most grateful for her part in their lives. She will be truly missed.
Her husband, John J. Compani predeceased her in December of 1988. She also lost her parents, Richard and Minnie Raywood Bartlett and sisters Mary Pitcher and Esther Bartlett.
Betty leaves her son John B. Compani and his wife Debra of Tribes Hill; grandchildren John P. Hilary Manell Compani and Kathleen Geraldo Ramierez; her dear companion of many years, John S. "Jack" Farley of Tribes Hill and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call this evening Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, where a prayer service will be held at 5pm. Betty's dear friend the Rev. Barbara Floryshak officiating. Spring interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the funeral home office.
